So, what is a serum?
Serums are skincare wonder products that deliver a high concentrated format of active ingredients directly to your skin. They are tailored to treat specific skin concerns like acne, uneven skin tone and even wrinkles. The most common active ingredients in a serum are usually Glycolic Acid, Vitamin C and peptides. "By leaving out many of the heavier ingredients that are found in traditional moisturizers, [face serums] contain a much higher proportional concentration of active ingredients," says Dr. Carlos A. Charles, founder and medical director of Derma di Colore in Chelsea. You will also find that out of all your products, serums feel the most lightweight as they range from gel-like formats through to oils.
What serum is best for me?
There is a serum out there for everyone, but one of our personal favourites is the Pro-Lifting & Firming Facial Serum. Formulated for dry or mature skin types, this serum is ideal for helping to diminish the appearance of imperfections like blackheads, dullness, wrinkles and fine lines. Infused with active ingredients like R.N.A. and Glycolic Acid, these ingredients aim to deeply boost skin's firmness, intensively hydrate and instantly help to improve signs of wrinkles and sagging skin for a more youthful looking complexion.
How do I use a serum?
As part of your routine, you should always apply your serums after toning and ahead of moisturising. This is because your serum has the highest percentage of active ingredients and applying it to fresh, cleansed skin gives it the best advantage to penetrating the skin deeply with all those beneficial active ingredients. The other reason is that serum’s light consistency means that it absorbs fast but if applied over the top of a barrier, like a moisturiser, it poses a challenge for skin to absorb it effectively.
How much should I use?
Less is definitely more when it comes to serums with most formulas only instructing a few drops for your whole face. Add 2-3 drops of our Pro-Lifting & Firming Facial Serum to damp skin after prepping skin with a cleanser and toner. Press serum into skin with an open palm and release the active ingredients for best results. After a couple of minutes, it should be fully absorbed so you can continue with your favourite moisturiser.
